Get Certified: Plant Maintenance Technologist Certification
The ABC plant maintenance technologist certification program offers Class I and II certification for water and wastewater plant maintenance technologists.
ABC defines the four Plant Maintenance Technologist certification levels as follows:

| Class IV | Inspecting and managing Class I - III duties, recommending purchases, and developing schedules and budgets | |
ABC defines the Plant Maintenance Technologist Education and Experience Requirements as follows:

| Class I | High school diploma, GED, or equivalent | One year of acceptable maintenance experience in a water or wastewater system. |
| Class II | High school diploma, GED, or equivalent | Three years of acceptable maintenance experience in a water or wastewater system with a minimum of two years performing Class II duties. |
| Class III | High school diploma, GED, or equivalent | Five years of acceptable maintenance experience in a water or wastewater system with a minimum of two years performing Class III duties. |
| Class IV | High school diploma, GED, or equivalent | Seven years of acceptable maintenance experience in a water or wastewater system with a minimum of two years performing Class IV duties. |
Individuals who do not meet the above requirements may still be eligible through ABC’s system that allows for substitution of education and experience. In addition, ABC offers an “in-training” certification to those applicants that do not yet meet our education and experience requirements.
Along with meeting the education and experience requirements, the technologist must pass the Plant Maintenance Technologist Certification Exam with a score of 70% or higher. Exams can be administered both nationally and internationally, wherever ABC proctoring is available. The specifications for the certification exams follow:
